Garden-to-Table Workshop - Summer II
AGES: 6-13 ** Please note that the workshop scope has changed slightly due to an instructor change.
Garden to Bowl: A Farm-to-Table Adventure! Join us for a hands-on evening of using harvested garden veggies, creativity, cooking, and tasting as we discover how fresh ingredients can travel from the garden straight to our plates!
Led by Chef Jamie Freels of Moon Co-op, children will discover how a few simple, fresh ingredients can become delicious homemade foods. Together, we'll prepare
- Fresh herb butter
- Garden-fresh salsa
As we cook, kids will learn:
- Simple food preparation skills
- The importance of fresh, local ingredients
- How to be adventurous by trying new flavors
Recipes are designed to be flexible so families can recreate them at home using vegetables and herbs from their own gardens or their local farmers' market.
Culture Crops Art Activity: Young chefs will create their own "Garden to Bowl" soup pot by choosing pictures of fresh vegetables and gluing them into a soup pot to design a delicious farm-to-table soup. Along the way, we'll talk about which vegetables grow in a garden and how they can be turned into warm, healthy meals.
