The National Lifeguard Pool certification is designed to develop the fundamental values, judgment, knowledge, skills and fitness required by lifeguards. The National Lifeguard course emphasizes the lifeguarding skills, principles and practices, and the decision-making processes which will assist the lifeguard to provide effective safety supervision in swimming pool environments.
Please check the prerequisites and ensure you have everything necessary before registering.
This course requires 100% attendance and participation. Missing any portion of the course will require the student to take the course again according to the Lifesaving Society policy.
*Successful completion of this course is worth TWO (2) Grade 12 Credits**
Please note different time/location for Wednesday, March 18th and March 25th. We will be having 2 classroom learning days at Jericho Sailing Centre. Located at 1300 Discovery Street, Vancouver. From 9 am - 3:30 pm.
Prerequisites - All Required.
- Bronze Cross (need not be current)
- Standard First Aid w/ CPR-C/AED (from a recognized agency below; need not be current)
- 15 years old (by the last day)

- Canadian Red Cross
- St. John Ambulance
- Canadian Ski Patrol
- Heart and Stroke Foundation
Materials Required - Candidates may use their Basic Lifeguard Pack from Bronze Cross if purchased. All candidates will need the following:
- ALERT Lifeguard Manual (included with course)
- Pocket Mask (add-on available via Basic Lifeguard Pack)
- Whistle (add-on available via Basic Lifeguard Pack)
- Fanny Pack (add-on available via Basic Lifeguard Pack)
If Whistle, CPR Pocket Mask and Fanny Pack are not brought with the candidate, they will be available for purchase on-site. Every candidate must have their own.
Cancellation/Refund policy:
Refunds, credits or transfer requests must be emailed to info@vancouverlifeguards.com.
5+ days before the course starts: If a refund request is received a minimum of 5 days prior to the start of the course a full refund will be provided, less a $10 administration fee. If a transfer request is received a minimum of 5 full days prior to the start of the course participants can transfer to a different course date at no cost. Transfer options/availability can be discussed at that time. Future course must be within 6 months of initial course.
Less than 5 full days notice before the start of the course: If a request is received with less than 5 full days prior to the start of the course, participants can transfer to a different course date for an administrative transfer fee equal to HALF (50%) of the course cost. If a course has already begun, a doctor's note is required to transfer to another course for an administrative transfer fee equal to HALF (50%) of the course cost. Course materials (Canadian Lifesaving Manual, Alert Manual) are excluded from the 50% transfer credit amount. No transfers will be permitted once course has completed. No refunds will be permitted within 5 days prior to start of the course.
