Defensive Pistol Skills League
Defensive Pistol Skills League
The Cohutta Pines Defensive Pistol Skills League is a recurring training event designed to help shooters build practical handgun skills in a structured, realistic, and supportive environment.
This league is inspired by the movement, stage design, and problem-solving elements found in action shooting sports like IDPA and USPSA — but with a different purpose.
This is not a competition.
There are no scores, no timers, no rankings, and no pressure to “win.” Instead, the focus is on helping participants learn how to safely and effectively apply defensive pistol skills through thoughtfully designed stages and drills.
Each session gives shooters the opportunity to work on skills such as:
- Drawing from the holster
- Movement and positional shooting
- Target transitions
- Use of cover and angles
- Decision-making under mild stress
- Reloads and handgun manipulation
- Stage planning and problem-solving
Whether you’re newer to defensive pistol work or already have some training under your belt, this league is designed to give you repetitions with purpose in a format that is engaging, educational, and approachable.
Participants will move through a series of stages that require them to think, process, and apply skills rather than simply stand in one place and shoot. The goal is to help you become a more capable, more confident, and more intentional shooter.
Who Is This For?
This league is a great fit for:
- Concealed carriers who want more practical reps
- Students who want to apply what they’ve learned in class
- Shooters curious about stage-based shooting without the competitive pressure
- Anyone looking to improve defensive handgun skills in a safe and guided environment
What Makes This Different?
Many people are interested in dynamic pistol events but feel intimidated by the competitive atmosphere, scoring, speed pressure, or the fear of “doing it wrong.”
The Defensive Pistol Skills League removes those barriers.
At Cohutta Pines, this league is built to be:
- Skill-focused
- Welcoming
- Educational
- Supportive
- Rooted in practical application
You do not have to be a “competitive shooter” to participate. You just need to be someone who wants to improve.
Important Notes
This is a live-fire skills event, not a beginner handgun class. Participants should already have safe gun-handling skills and a working familiarity with their pistol and gear.
Safety is our top priority, and all participants will be expected to follow range commands, stage procedures, and safe firearms handling standards at all times.
Come train, learn, solve problems, and sharpen the skills that matter.
No pressure. No score. Just skill development with purpose.
