Curious about sailing?

Your private lesson is a one-day, hands-on introduction to keelboat sailing in a coastal setting. Your instructor will:

• Introduce you to setting up Sloop du Jour, a Laser 28 performance cruiser
• Review safety equipment and procedures, and provide a briefing about your day
• Take you for a day of sailing in the waters adjacent to Sidney and Swartz Bay
• Review basic sailing and boat handling concepts

We meet at Fox & Monocle at Canoe Cove at 8:30 am for introductions, then head to the boat. You'll be on the water until 4:00 pm.

What to bring

• Packed lunch
• Layers for warmth (it's cooler on the water than on land)
• Rain jacket if rain is forecast
• Shoes with soft, grippy soles (sneakers work great)
• Sun protection: well-fitting hat, sunglasses, sunscreen

What you'll experience

You'll help with basic tasks, feel what it's like to be on a sailboat, and get a taste of what coastal sailing involves.

Your session will end with a conversation about:

• What you learned
• Your sailing goals
• Next steps if you want to keep learning

This program follows Sail Canada's Start Keelboat Standard (which is equivelant to GSC's Keelboat 1 course)
