Junior Lifeguard Club - Intermediate/Advanced
*** Intermediate/Advanced Combo ***
Junior Lifeguard Club is a new adventure for your child. Participants aged 8-15 will be taught important skills for future lifeguards, including first aid, lifesaving decision making, leadership, as well as improving their fitness and endurance. This is a great way to prepare to take Bronze Medallion and Cross or if your child is looking for a new adventure in the pool!
This level gives the opportunity to students to get extra practice on their swimming skills, while still having some lifesaving fun! Egg-beater, whip kick and scissor kick are our lifesaving kicks and important to skills throughout future courses. Front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke will also be fine tuned in this level.
Prerequisites: Participants should be able to swim 100 meters of front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke, tread water for 2 minutes. For ages 8+.
Junior Lifeguard Club Levels:
- Beginner: first time in JLC, can swim 1 length (25m) by themselves and still needs some stroke development. Building towards swimming 100m (front, back, breast-strokes) and treading water for 2 minutes.
- Intermediate: Can swim 100m of Front Crawl/Back Crawl/Breaststroke & can tread water for 2 minutes, completed Swimmer 6 or previous experience in JLC (promoted from beginners level). Curriculum includes skills from Rookie patrol and Ranger Patrol
- Advanced: Completed Ranger Patrol or higher (e.g. Star Patrol, Bronze Star and up). Reviews lifesaving skills, continues to develop swimming fitness and fun.
- Bronze Practice Levels - BRONZE PRACTICE is designed for kids with extensive lifesaving training. Whether practicing before taking Bronze Medallion or Bronze Cross, or wanting to keep their lifesaving skills sharp this program will review, challenge and build upon their lifesaving skills.
> Note this is a short set so classes have been extended to 90 minutes. Rough class plan is half stroke development and half rescue skills, first aid, relays, fun! There may be a school event using the pool (school events take priority over groups). Should this occur, either a make-up day or refund will be explored as options. Any changes in schedule will be communicated with plenty of advanced notice.

Excellent instructors. Great guidance and instructions. Our son really enjoyed the Vancouver Lifeguard Cross Practice sessions. Pleased to highly recommend VLA to everyone looking to develop their swimming and lifeguarding skills.
Great program - kids have fun in and out of the water while learning.
Love that kids were graded not only on their current level, but were given credit for a higher level if they were able to complete/achieve the goal. Not sure if this is still the case anymore as we did not get back the progress report that we brought on the first day of class.
Great way for kids to start training for the requirements of Bronze Medallion. Thanks so much for putting on this class
