Join us for a weekend clinic to help you certify as an Intermediate Coastal Instructor.

Clinic Logistics

Departure: Westport Marine in Sidney (marina and slip details to come)

Dates: Wednesday, August 26 to Friday 28, 2026

Boarding: Wednesday, August 26 at 5:00 pm

Disembark: Friday, 28, 2026 at ~5:00 pm

Fees: $1250 per candidate (excl. taxes and food).

Pre-weekend preparations: You can expect to attend a series of Zoom meetings before the sailing weekend to

Review the requirements and assignments for Intermediate instructors
Introduce SCOEL, Sail Canada's learning management system (if required)
Review key learning units in SCOEL
Set out lesson plan assignments ("classroom", dockside, under sail)
Discuss effective adult teaching methods
Review the agenda for the practical weekend

Homework: Please allow time for homework. This includes

Ensuring you meet all of Sail Canada's prerequisites (see the Intermediate Cruising Instructor)
Completion of instructors' working papers
Completion of the Rules of the Road exam to 90%
Preparing four lesson plans according to the assignments ("classroom," dockside, on-water, professional topic)
Writing the Intermediate exam to 90%

Weekend activities: The instructor/evaluators will be working on the specifics of the clinic agenda before our trip. We'll share the specifics when it's ready, but you can expect to deliver your lesson plans.

Who should apply

Sail Canada Basic Cruising instructors with certifications in good standing, or requiring recertification (conditions apply).

Registering, deposits & final payment

Registration is first-come, first-served and will be limited to four instructor candidates. A minimum of 4 participants is required for the clinic to offer this course at $1,250 per participant.

Candidates are required to pay a 25% deposit when they register. The balance of course fees is due on July 30, 2026.
