Suitable Ages 10 - 17
Participants will learn how easy it can be to grow food at home, whether in a backyard, balcony, or windowsill. Youth will decorate planting pots and grow beginner-friendly herbs and vegetables while learning how local food growing can improve food accessibility, sustainability, and healthy eating habits.
Youth participants will need to be signed in and out of the program with a photo ID.
As programming takes place outdoors, staff will closely monitor weather conditions leading to the program. If staff determines that an inclement weather event is occurring, you will be notified by 8 AM about the program's relocation to the Cambridge Food Bank at 54 Ainslie St.
Light snacks will be provided. Please bring:
-Sunscreen
-Bug spray
-Closed-toe shoes
-Water
-and any extra snack participants need
Activities:
-Helping to maintain the garden and harvest
-Painting pots or recycled cans
-Plant basil, tomatoes, lettuce, or herbs
-Beginner gardening tips for home growing
