Pony Diaries - Wed AM Sep-Dec (14wks)
Pony Diaries is our program for homeschoolers, ages 5-13. Attendees might be brand new beginners or competent to independently walk, trot and beginning to canter, or somewhere in between.
Once our riders reach age 9+ and are confident to halter and tack their pony and ride independently, some graduate to our Jr Apprentice program.
Children learn to ride their horse or pony and engage in horse care, horsemanship and ranch chores. We connect through games, circle, hikes, tack care and related craft activities. All our PD riders are required to help with chores, including mucking, grooming and animal care.
Our riders experience seasonal arts and crafts created outdoors, using natural materials. Projects are led by our certified Waldorf teachers, Heather and Sushila. Past projects have included woodwork, knitting, weaving, puppet making, watercolor, plant dyes, pigment making, cooking, natures first aid and more.
Skills & Areas Explored:
- Connecting and building relationships with the animals and their peers
- Horse anatomy compared to human anatomy
- Building confidence in communicating with the horses & animals
- Improve balance, stamina and focus through ground work, riding, chores & teamwork
- Crafts, enriching our time together and building on storytelling, creativity and dexterity.
- FUN!
Homeschoolers are now required by the state of California to track "time value" for their learning. Our Pony Diaries program is 3hrs per week. The time can be broken up to include: 90min PE, 30min art, 30min ELA (speech and movement games), 30min science.
Pony Diaries is a drop off program. Parents with other children who are not enrolled in Pony Diaries are not permitted to stay for classes. We offer scheduled opportunities to come watch each semester. If your child has a need for you to stay beyond settling in, please get in touch with us.
Sibling Discounts are for direct pay families only. We offer 10% off subsequent riders enrolled in the same semester. We do not offer a sibling discount for charter school students.
MAKEUPS We are unable to offer makeups for these sessions if missed. We only offer makeups in the event we need to cancel a session.
