Start Keelboat Sailing

Your private lesson is a two-day, hands-on introduction to your Waterline 25 in a coastal setting. Dave will:

• Inspect the safety gear aboard your boat and review its use with you
• Discuss departure procedures and provide a briefing about your day
• Introduce you to setting up your Waterline 35 for a day of sailing
• Introduce basic boat handling concepts under motor
• Introduce basic boat handling concepts under sail
• Introduce basic chart reading skills in local waters adjacent to Ladysmith

We suggest meeting at the boat at 9:00 am. You'll be on the water until 4:00 or 5:00 pm.

This program will follow Sail Canada's Start Keelboat Standard.

Your session will end with a conversation about:

• What you learned
• Your sailing goals
• Next steps if you want to keep learning

What to bring

• A packed lunch
• Layers for warmth (it's cooler on the water than on land)
• Rain jacket if rain is forecast
• Shoes with soft, grippy soles (sneakers work great)
• Sun protection: well-fitting hat, sunglasses, sunscreen
