USCCA Non-Lethal Self-Defense: Pepper Spray & ASP Defender Fundamentals

USCCA Non-Lethal Self-Defense: Everyday Personal Safety, Pepper Spray & ASP Defender Fundamentals

Personal safety is for everyone. Whether you are heading to work, going to school, meeting clients, running errands, or simply spending time out and about, this practical course will help you build confidence and develop useful skills for everyday life.

Built around the USCCA Non-Lethal Self-Defense program, this course explores how awareness, avoidance, communication, movement, and responsible use of personal-protection tools can work together as part of an everyday safety plan. Using trusted SABRE self-defense spray products and the ASP Defender device, you will learn more than simply how these tools work. You will learn how to recognize potential problems earlier, make safer decisions, create distance, and understand how non-lethal tools may fit into your overall approach to personal protection.

This class is designed for adults and teens, including students heading off to college, healthcare workers, realtors, office professionals, parents, older adults, and anyone who wants a simple, practical option for personal protection. No prior training or experience is needed.

Participants will learn that a self-defense tool is only helpful when it is carried responsibly, understood clearly, and practiced properly. Through discussion and hands-on work with inert training sprays and ASP Defender training tools, students will have the opportunity to build familiarity and confidence in a supportive learning environment.

In this course, you will learn:

  • How the USCCA Non-Lethal Self-Defense approach can support a layered personal-safety plan
  • What pepper spray is, how it works, and what to expect from different self-defense spray products
  • An introduction to the ASP Defender device, its features, intended use, and considerations for carrying it responsibly
  • How to recognize potential risks and use awareness, avoidance, and planning to reduce your chances of becoming a target
  • Important legal considerations related to carrying and using self-defense sprays and impact tools
  • How communication, de-escalation, movement, and distance can help you disengage from a developing situation
  • How and when to access, aim, and deploy self-defense spray effectively
  • Basic presentation, retention, and responsible handling concepts for the ASP Defender
  • What to do if you are exposed to pepper spray yourself
  • Simple, practical strategies that can support your everyday personal-safety plan

Students will practice with inert training sprays and ASP Defender training tools, allowing them to safely work on presentation, aiming, movement, and decision-making without exposure to active pepper spray.

By the end of the course, you will have a clearer understanding of your personal-safety options and practical skills you can apply right away. You will leave better prepared to carry, use, and respond responsibly with non-lethal self-defense tools.
