Is This Workshop for You?
If you've ever wanted to transform a treasured textile into something wearable, this workshop is for you! In this hands-on class, you'll create a one-of-a-kind hoodie using thrifted, vintage, preloved, or secondhand textiles.
Bring your own quilts, blankets, tablecloths, or other textiles from home or a local thrift shop. Not sure what to use? Karen will have Kantha quilts available for purchase at the event for $15 each — a wonderful option for a first hoodie project. For inspiration, visit Karen on Instagram at @sullysupcycled. Please Bring
What to keep in mind when choosing your textile:
- Thickness-not too thick/dense - the sewing machine will need to make it through 3 layers of the textile you have chose
- I suggest you not use a cherished textile for your first hoodie! You might make some mistakes- so let’s learn using a textile that is not so loved!
- WASH ITEMS PRIOR TO CLASS
- This is a perfect first-time garment to sew, but a basic knowledge of a sewing machine is needed.
- Pins, quilt clips
- Fabric scissors
- Neutral color thread
- Denim needles
- A thrifted, second hand or preloved textile. This could be a quilt, blanket, or curtain. For an idea of amount of fabric you need, it should be about the size of a twin size bedspread. You can also combine fabrics - sleeves and hood different from bodice etc.
