After hundreds of hours of training with firearms instructors from law enforcement to Navy SEALs and US Special Forces and shooting competitively for many years, I thought I knew a lot about shooting.
I was wrong! The longer I trained and the more instructors I met, the less I felt I took away from any class other than some faster draw strokes to first shot or pairs at 7 yards.
This is an entirely other level! I wish I could go back in time and make Tactical Hyve the team I trusted to make me more capable as a shooter. Past classes reinforced the same material over and over with some occasional bias from the instructor based on their particular background; while Myles and his team bring together the best of combat tools with competitive smoothness and a scientific approach to shooting that is proven effective right before your eyes and in your own hands.
They take skills I have learned before and add layers and improvements that never even occurred to me.
The capacity of the instructional team to serve as diagnosticians was the best I have ever encountered, and this is what you should be paying for in a class, not just a guy with a stopwatch.
There was also no “my way or the highway”. Every tactic or improvement was offered with a “try this and see if it works for you or fits your style”. Incredibly refreshing and non-dogmatic.
This is what firearms training SHOULD be. I have already referred other friends to save them the fortune I spent chasing good instruction before I found Tactical Hive. I will be back!
I’ve been a firearms instructor for a long time. My background includes military service, law enforcement, NRA and USCCA certification. Through all of that, I’ve always tried to keep one mindset above all else: be a student first.
I signed up for Tactical Hyve’s Cheat Codes of Shooting workshop because I knew I needed something more—not just for my students, but for myself. If I don’t continue to improve, neither will the people I teach.
Like many experienced instructors, I’d spent years training to established standards. What this course helped me realize is that many of those standards are simply “good enough.” They produce competent shooters, but they don’t necessarily produce the most efficient, fastest, or most consistent shooters.
Over the years, I’ve invested thousands of dollars in training with well-known instructors. Some courses were good, many were interesting, but very few fundamentally changed how I approached shooting or gave me practical tools that significantly moved the needle. This workshop was different. For the first time in a long time, I genuinely felt challenged.
Whenever I attend training, I intentionally try to check my ego at the door and approach it as though I were a complete novice. Even then, it wasn’t easy. Years of ingrained muscle memory don’t disappear overnight. Myles’ ground-up methodology systematically exposed deficiencies I didn’t fully realize I had because I’d been living in that “good enough” rut for so long. Instead of simply telling students what to do, he breaks down why it works, allowing you to identify exactly where your own performance is breaking down.
Despite his internet popularity, I found Myles Vives to be exactly the opposite of what some people might expect. He’s humble, approachable, and genuinely invested in every student’s progress. He, along with instructor candidates Deb and Eddie, created an environment where students were constantly coached, encouraged, and challenged. It never felt like a performance for social media—it felt like professional instruction from someone who truly cares whether you improve.
In my own profession, becoming a trusted advisor quickly is essential. Technical expertise matters, but so do communication, coaching, and the ability to adapt your message to different people. I saw those same qualities throughout this workshop.
Some people will point out that Myles doesn’t have the military, law enforcement, or competitive shooting résumé of many of Tactical Hyve’s subject matter experts. To me, that’s missing the point. He’s never asking students to do something he can’t demonstrate himself. More importantly, he’s done what the best instructors do—he has surrounded himself with exceptional experts, absorbed their knowledge like a sponge, validated it through his own practice, and distilled it into an instructional system that is practical, repeatable, and accessible.
That’s what the “Cheat Codes” really are. They’re not shortcuts that eliminate the work. They’re shortcuts that eliminate wasted time. They can save students thousands of rounds, countless hours of frustration, and years of trial and error by helping them focus on what actually matters.
Don’t expect to leave this workshop having mastered everything. In many ways, you’ll leave realizing just how much there is still to learn—or perhaps more accurately, how much you need to unlearn and relearn. That’s one of the greatest strengths of the course. It provides an outstanding foundation while giving you a clear roadmap for continued improvement.
Is the course expensive? Maybe at first glance. But after attending, I’d argue the value is easily 10x the cost if you’re willing to put in the work afterward.
If you’re looking for a magic trick that instantly makes you a better shooter without practice, this isn’t your course.
If you think your shooting is already “good enough,” save your money. You’ll probably continue doing what 95% of gun owners do—meeting a minimum standard and never realizing what you’re actually capable of.
But if you’re willing to challenge your assumptions, rebuild parts of your fundamentals, and commit to deliberate practice, I believe this course is one of the best investments you can make in your development as a shooter and as an instructor.

I have carried a gun personally and professionally for nearly 60yrs and administered, attended, and instructed defensive handgun use from a wide range of institutions: local, state and federal law enforcement, military, corporate, and private entities. I can declare without equivocation that TH offers some of the very best instruction I’ve ever had the opportunity to participate in. Their skills curriculum and its presentation, drills, standards and individual attention to students are excellent.
The Tactical Hyve team is highly professional, knowledgeable and down to earth. They are confident in what they teach and are able to pair down to your skill level and build you up from there. The class was great, a lot of likeminded students, and instructors who truly know their craft and how to teach. I highly recommend attending one of their classes and seeing for yourself. It’s not a surprise why their classes fill so quickly.
I recently completed the 3-Day Cheat Code Workshop with Tactical Hyve, and it was hands-down the best shooting training I have ever attended.
The amount of information provided was excellent and extremely practical. Every concept was reinforced through a wide variety of well-designed drills that really drove home the core principles. One of the most valuable parts for me was learning how to self-identify my own shooting bad habits and, more importantly, how to correct them effectively.
Instructors Miles, Noel, and Dan did an outstanding job creating a safe, supportive, and pressure free learning environment. They taught at a perfect level that kept the class engaging for shooters of all experience levels, never talking over anyone’s head or making beginners feel lost. The instruction was clear, adaptable, and genuinely focused on helping every student improve.
If you’re serious about improving your shooting skills, this workshop is worth every penny and every minute. Highly recommended!
This was my first experience with TacticalHyve - and I keep wondering why haven’t I reached out to them earlier.
Cheat codes workshop should be mandatory to any gun owner. Amount of information is immense - yet it neatly packed into digestable pieces, and supplemented with abundance of practice. Instructors on the range are very knowledgeable, respectful and ready to help and correct mistakes.
Myles himself is humble, extremely professional and his way of teaching is very structured. Same goes to everyone on his team.
Students on the workshop had different levels of expertise and different gear - yet all of them had something to learn, mistakes to correct and with the help of TacticalHyve team all of us stepped up our game.
All in all, this workshop has extreme value. I became more collected, smooth and precise with my gun.

I have an extensive instructor background, and this class was eye-opening and like nothing I have experienced to obtain a certification. Although I did not achieve my goal of passing, the feedback from Myles, Tyler and Chad was invaluable to ensure I do succeed next attempt. They took alot of time helping all the candidates understand what they had to work on. I appreciate that this company dose not accept less than mastery of the product before certifying someone instruct for them.

I learned a tremendous amount during the class, and I feel that Dorr is a great teacher. This class, like the Essential Defense class, went at a very good pace, not too fast, not too slow to where you’re not staying in the moment.
As a 62 year old woman, I never felt like I was going to be injured, I felt confident to do every scenario freely. I did cover up pretty good, so I wasn’t taking on welts, I didn’t want to get to where I was flinching, and not taking in the training.
There were things in the training that finally clicked in my brain, that for me, I couldn’t get from watching a video, and now they will become part of my private practice. I am getting so much out of physically training with an instructor, watching in real life, and receiving feedback. I am building more confidence, even though I know I have a long way to go, to become much more proficient.
I’m so glad I took this class, it was a great class for my beginner skill level. I was very comfortable, which allowed me to participate openly, and without hesitation. I’m very excited about my next class, the 3 day Cheat Codes, in Olympia, Washington.

The instructors were not only knowledgeable, but also know ways to share their knowledge effectively. They also gave great and practical advice, plus they made the class extremely fun. I leveled up my game 10x
Course was very good. Instructors were experienced, professional, and very good at delivering course objectives in a thorough yet simple and easily digestible way. We got a lot of reps of basic level CQB techniques at the appropriate level for a civilian in a home defense scenario. They increased the difficulty slowly over the two days which allowed students to practice and digest new concepts while still being slowly pushed to the next level at the same time. Would highly recommend to anyone new to CQB or even someone who wants to brush up on basics while still definitely picking up a lot of new information and correcting bad habits.
Hal was fantastic. He was easy to understand, kept things easy going but still safe. Great class that really gave some practical advice, tips, and theory on shooting pistols. A+ would recommend.

Very professional presentation. Excellent content. Unaware of numerous emails until night of 2nd class day as they went into my Google Promotional folder. I happened to see it Day 2 night and moved it to Primary folder. Then saw all the emails sent in the prior weeks. In my case, I would have been better prepared to learn effectively and at a faster rate if I had been able to read the content, in general or in detail, before the class began or even each day before class. Also if purchasing the notes of the class, reading them each day after class to reinforce content. I was the guy who took extensive notes throughout each day anyway as I find that is a good way to retain the information with personalized content as most people lose 50%+ without taking notes. My knowledge and training is 20+ years ago and directly from law enforcement or books available back in the day. Much of what I knew is obsolete and the unlearning of habits was the first issue. As you stated, we go back to what we know under stress or when tired, hence the bad habits return and are exposed. Thanks for the privilege to learn from the best.

It was a wonderful weekend, definitely pushes your comfort zone.. but that’s needed to figure out what works for you and what doesn’t. I can say, I was absolutely beat at the end of the class.. but it was totally worth it. Myles, Dorr, and Tyler were great… I appreciated Tyler’s patience and encouragement.. and Myles was there to push or boundaries to try and do better, and not just standing at the firing line stationary at a nice easy target.. lots of easy movements to get started. Dorr had a great sense of humor between relays.
I recommend Tactical Hyve to anyone looking for more than just basic shooting.. it’s what you need to start preparing for more real life situations.
This was a great course, and Essential for evaluating my personal skill level and mindset for concealed carry, and home defense. The personal attention to each student was amazing, I came away with personalized drills I need to work on, and I think even the most advanced students in the course will say the same thing. I never felt like the class was going too fast for comprehension of the drills we were working on, although there is a lot to take in, the class moved at a good pace. I always felt very safe being on the line with all of the other shooters, which is very important to me. We were pushed to advance in our skill level, but in a completely safe way, never pushed to go faster when you shouldn’t. Concealed carrying is a Huge responsibility, and this course is great for not only showing you how to handle your weapon better, safer, and faster on the draw correctly, but also helps you in making decisions while carrying. I can’t thank Dorr, and Myles enough, for the great teaching, I got so much out of the course to move forward in my personal training. I am looking forward to my next course Cheat Codes, after taking my first course with Tactical Hyve, I know I will get so much out of it.
Miles, Dorr, and Tyler were courteous/professional in guiding students together and also with feedback highly personal/specific to each student. Content good re core critical skills.
I would recommend this class to new/novice shooters, intermediate shooters, as well as advanced shooters. The instructors will meet you at of those skill levels; then provide specific training for shooters in each skill level. Dividing the skill levels allowed the instructors to provide progressive instructions and techniques so the group can advance altogether. Instructors are a wealth of knowledge and have much real-world experience. I will be taking more classes with Tactical Hyve in the future.
Super fun and informative training. Lots of working out with great and eligible staff. Super safe, I learned a bunch. Definitely would take it again.
Excellent PCC course & training, especially having a small class size to get more one on one instruction. Kyle shared so much info. Everyone in class by the 2nd day of training showed anlot of improvement. i’m excited to get out & practice implementing all the things i learned.
Dorr teaches REAL LIFE tactical applications. Thorough and relevant, this is the most comprehensive gun fighting course I’ve taken. Far more useful training than the military / Law enforcement firearms training I’ve completed in the past. Want a challenge? Sign up!
Dorr is spot on. Lots of good information and very helpful in class. Extremely personable. By far one of the best instructors I have had. Two issue which have nothing to do with the instructor. People showing up late. It cuts into the time the rest of us paid for. I am there to learn not wait on people that cannot make it on time. People showing up with rifles not zeroed. This puts the instructor in a hard position because he cannot give constructive feedback, so he is left with no choice but to zero rifles which was time consuming. A few others and I zeroed or rifles ahead of time and this becomes problematic when we have to wait for the ones that did not. Emphasis on this was not Dorr’s fault. Not sure how you would correct those two issues. With the Zero issue maybe let them shoot what they have the way they have it or send them to a separate part of the range to zero and come back.
