The level of expertise from the instructors is highly comprehensive. The way they communicate and explain details to people who have no experience with firearms—while at the same time effectively interacting with those who already have some training—is excellent.
I also appreciate their training method, which includes scientific explanations rather than simply practicing movements or techniques through repetition.

I recently took the Night Pistol Defense course with ValorTech, taught by Herfel Torres, and it was honestly one of the best training experiences I’ve ever had. This was my second class with ValorTech, so I already knew their training was solid, but Herfel and his team took it to another level.

The course is a full seven hours of low-light defensive shooting, and it really shows you how different things become once the sun goes down. Most gun owners only train in daylight, but real-life encounters don’t follow that schedule. Herfel walked us through how to properly use light, identify threats, maintain control, and protect our position when visibility is limited and stress is high.

What really stood out to me was how down to earth, knowledgeable, and genuinely approachable Herfel is. His experience training law enforcement and military personnel is clear in every drill, but he teaches in a way that feels supportive, no sugar coated. He breaks down techniques, gives helpful feedback, and makes sure you understand the “why” behind every movement.

I also want to highlight Carlos, the second instructor. He played a huge role in reinforcing everything we learned from Herfel. Carlos explained the scenarios behind each drill in a way that made the training feel real and practical. He connected the dots, showing how each skill applies during an actual defensive encounter. Having both instructors there brought an extra layer of clarity and value to the entire experience.

The drills were realistic, the coaching was hands-on, and the learning environment was both challenging and encouraging. By the end of the night, I walked away with a completely new level of confidence, especially when operating with a handheld or weapon-mounted light under pressure.

If you’re serious about improving your defensive skills, I can’t recommend ValorTech, Herfel Torres, and Carlos enough. This class is worth every minute, and I’m already looking forward to taking my next course with them.

Herfel Torres provided an extremely knowledgeable, skill-based, detailed, comprehensive, and, yes, fun 2-day Advanced Pistol Defense class.
The amount of information shared was huge and all of it “spot on”. After clear and succinct instructions re: each new training module (eg stance), followed by demonstrations from our instructor, Herfel, students were given plenty of live fire opportunities to practice and assess their level of understanding of that particular new training module. Students pairing up to carefully watch each other, assess, and give valuable input truly enhanced the learning experience
Herfel’s class content was organized, moved at an optimal pace (not too slow and not too fast), and covered a variety of topics and concepts important and integral to success in self-defense, stressing and emphasizing above all, the importance of having solid fundamentals in the skills that go into marksmanship, gun handling, and mind-set. And throughout the two days, Herfel remained patient, answering questions right and left, supportive, positive, and upbeat, displaying a wonderful sense of humor which put all students at ease.
Ending the 2-day class with multiple runs through a shoot house allowed each student to try to utilize and put into use each of the topics covered. It was a unique opportunity to blend together all the new skills practiced and covered, and to clearly see what worked and what didn’t work.
Herfel’s three assistants, Carlos, Domingo, and Jalen, were likewise outstanding in their willingness and ability to help and freely gave excellent assistance to all students present.
I strongly recommend this class to whomever is ready to get their self-defense skills to the next level.

Using real world experience, Herfel and Carlos teach an incredibly complete class teaching modern techniques while explaining the physiology and logic behind every lesson. They run a very safe class while at the same time making it fun and enjoyable for everyone in the class. I wanted to thank the instructors. I appreciated the way the course started with the fundamentals and how each section of the course built on the information we had just learned. We were then instructed to use the informationon the range. The instructors gave very specific feedback and opportunity was given to correct habits. I especially enjoyed learning about the mechanics behind body positioning and how our brain receives images and processes information. Geat course!

Herfel is a fantastic teacher. And no matter what he says awesome with the pistol. I cant wait to see what he can do with a carbine. I see why so many organizations seek his training. Herfal is the best trainer you will ever have. They are lucky to have him. You will gain incredible knowledge and your valuable skills in improving your shot.

This course was very comprehensive. The way of explaining and teaching was excellent. We learned many fundamentals, and most importantly, why and when to use them. Various exercises were performed that were very valuable for understanding what was being taught. The trainer and his assistants demonstrated vast experience in what they taught. I highly recommend them. I will check other dates to take more training sessions.

Had an amazing time. But instructors were very knowable and communicated techniques, cues, and tips in a way that was easy to understand and implement into shooting. Looking forward to doing more trainings with Valortec!

This was another great class from Herfel I not only learned a great deal about shooting with a red dot but also the science of parallax-red dot-glasses, shooting behind a occluded red dot and the misconceptions of co-witnessing the dot. It was also great to get some great incite and feedback from Okan. I will be taken the low light class next.

I loved Herfel, he was the best of the best, I can’t thank him enough. I would have liked to talk with him more about red dots, holsters and concealed carry as well because he has great knowledge of what is the best.
